Wae Rebo Tour 3 Days 2 Nights
A cultural and adventure journey into the highlands of Flores, blending trekking, tradition, history, and stunning landscapes.
Day 1 – Labuan Bajo – Lembor – Denge Village – Wae Rebo Village
-
Lembor → Known as the largest rice field area in Flores, this valley offers sweeping green landscapes. A great place to stop for photos and enjoy local dishes.
-
Denge Village → A small Manggarai village, serving as the starting point of the trek to Wae Rebo. This is where you prepare for your hike while enjoying the local rural atmosphere.
-
Trek to Wae Rebo (2–3 hours) → The path winds through dense rainforest, bamboo groves, and mountain ridges. The trek itself is part of the adventure, with fresh mountain air and birdsong accompanying you.
-
Wae Rebo Village → A UNESCO-recognized cultural site. This remote village sits at 1,100m above sea level and is famous for its Mbaru Niang (cone-shaped traditional houses). Guests are welcomed by a traditional ceremony (Waelu) led by the chief, followed by an overnight stay inside the communal house — a rare chance to live and share stories with the villagers.
Day 2 – Wae Rebo Village – Denge – Ruteng Town
-
Wae Rebo Morning → Early morning is magical here: mist rolls over the valley, making the village look like it’s floating in clouds. Perfect for photography and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.
-
Trek back to Denge → Descend through the rainforest trail, enjoying new perspectives of the surrounding mountains.
-
Ruteng Town → A cool highland town known as the center of Manggarai culture and Catholic heritage. On arrival, you can do light sightseeing — visiting churches, traditional markets, or simply enjoying the mountain vibe. Overnight in a comfortable hotel.
Day 3 – Ruteng – Liang Bua Cave – Spider Web Rice Fields – Labuan Bajo
-
Liang Bua Cave → A world-famous archeological site where scientists discovered the remains of Homo floresiensis (“the Hobbit”), a small ancient human species that lived around 50,000 years ago. Inside the cave, visitors can see the excavation site and learn about Flores’ prehistoric past.
-
Spider Web Rice Fields (Lingko) – Cancar → A unique agricultural system designed by the Manggarai people. From above, the fields resemble a giant spider web, with plots radiating from a central point, symbolizing shared land among families. This spot is perfect for cultural explanation and panoramic photography.
-
Lembor (Lunch stop) → A relaxing meal in a local restaurant while enjoying the rural scenery.
-
Labuan Bajo Return → Drive back through Flores’ winding roads to reach Labuan Bajo, where the journey ends.
